Today was the day. I FINALLY got my Focus T25 in the mail. If you haven’t heard about this brand new program from Beachbody yet, then you should definitely check out this blog post on just what it’s all about. So yeah, I got it in the mail today and really just in the nick of time because I have one of my challenge groups starting in just a couple days!
Well, I decided to go ahead and bust it open and check it all out. After opening it, I really couldn’t resist the temptation of just throwing in a dvd and watching for a bit and maybe even doing just a couple of the moves. I know, I know…I had planned on waiting and starting on Monday with the group, but I just couldn’t help myself.
I had just got in from a three mile run, was nice and warmed up and thought, “hey, let’s just put it in and maybe just do a couple minutes worth of it and then turn it off and be done.” The next thing I know I am going full blast and nothing was going to stop me from finishing and totally nailing this workout. I was going 110% and I couldn’t stop or be stopped until that clock ticked down to 00.00! Yes my name is Jared and I am an addict with absolutely zero control!
Also, I couldn’t resist the urge to blog about it right away either and just exactly what I took away from this very first workout of FOCUS T25 - that I literally just finished (about 10 minutes ago)! Doing a review on this workout wasn’t something that I had originally planned on doing, but I’m just so pumped up about it that I wanted to share it all with you all pretty much – right now!
FOCUS T25 – Alpha Cardio Review
The workout I chose to just throw in for a minute or two (yeah right) was the Alpha – Cardio Workout, which is the first one on the schedule I think, and let me just say…it was SO MUCH FUN – but it definitely was not easy by any means. I was dripping sweat just 5 minutes in. Listen, when I think of a workout being only 25 minutes, I have a tendency to think it’s going to be a breeze, well it was anything but that. This is 25 minutes with ZERO breaks and your heart rate is through the roof if you are pushing anywhere close to where you should be. This doesn’t mean that you have to be in top notch condition to attempt this program either because anyone can do this program. That is how it is designed. Tania, who you may remember from Insanity, is back and is doing modifications, so you can follow her through the whole thing, parts you struggle with, or when you simply need to dial it down for a spell. It’s setup to accommodate all levels of conditioning and do it in just 25 minutes too!
The Alpha – Cardio is the foundation or the beginning (maybe easiest, I don’t know yet ???) of the series, but all you Insanity and Asylum graduates shouldn’t worry about it not being insane enough for you – this is an extreme series as well and there is lots to come and build upon. As a matter of fact there were bits and pieces of Insanity and Asylum (especially Asylum 2) in there already and this is just the first workout! I am an Insanity, Asylum, Asylum 2 grad and I was definitely feeling this.
The flow of the workout goes like so…. start off with an easy move in it’s most basic form, make a little harder, make it a little more harder, make it even more harder and then progress to the point where it is most developed (at it’s hardest). You are throwing together sequences that are progression based. After that, you do a “burn out” on the final move of each of those progressions and then you move on to the next move in it’s basic form again and then start the progressions over again. You are constantly moving, there are no breaks and there is no relief, but you never really spend too much time on one single move which was something that I really liked. Changing the moves up so often really makes the time go by fast and there is a ton of variety which eases the pain…well, maybe a little anyway.
After the 25 minutes are up, there is an extra two and half minute cool down/stretch that you can do (which I did and recommend). I also, took an additional 5 minutes or so stretching even after that, but I am getting older and I need it, it’s really up to you at that point.
All in all, I am so excited about this program. I have been training a lot for the Spartan Beast Race coming up in Monterey and adding in this 25 minute burner to what I am doing now I believe will really take my cardio to the next level.
